Firefighters were again sent to East Main Street for a house fire, this time to 7 East Main at 0405 hours. Central Dispatch dispatched it as a working fire with the possibility that there were residents still in the structure. Third Assistant Chief Brian McCluskey was first on scene and found a 5 unit, two story, wood frame apartment building with smoke coming from a second floor apartment. He, along with members of the Canton Police Department, gained entry to the other apartments to be sure all other residents were out of the building. Engine 7 was enroute at 0408 hours and arrived minutes later. The initial line was stretched and the fire was knocked down quickly. Additional personnel, arriving on Engine 8, Truck 1, Rescue 1 and Ambulance 133, went to work performing the primary and secondary searches of the building along with ventilation, salvage and overhaul. Chief Dalton, requested that the County Fire Investigation Team be activated to the scene to assist in the determination of the cause and origin of the fire. Village Code Enforcement Officer Tony Carracciolo responded to this fire as well and was able to allow several of the residents of the other apartments to return to their homes after the fire department had cleared the scene. There were no injuries reported. All Units were back in service at 0745 hours.
