By Fire Chief Robert Crowe
April 18, 2022

Canton Fire, Canton Rescue, and County Car 4 were dispatched at 1218 for a reported grass fire threatening a structure at 96 Jingleville Road. Chief Crowe (4-1) responded at 1219 with Tanker 20 and Engine 8 enroute at 1226. Arriving on scene, Chief Crowe advised the the fire had spread to an adjacent 10 X 10 shed and rubbish pile, with a camper and the mobile home as exposures. Tanker 20 arrived and an 1 3/4" line was stretched to the rear of the trailer and the the fire knocked down. Engine 8 supported Tanker 20 with additional water and personnel. Members spent some extra time performing overhaul to ensure that the fire would not rekindle. Weather conditions were ripe for rapid fire spread through the dry grass and undergrowth. Town Code Enforcement Officer Mike McQuaid also responded to the scene. The fire was determined to have been caused by the use of a burn barrel. The homeowners were issued a citation as the use of burn barrels is illegal. All Canton units were back in service at 1325.

Units: Tanker 20 (Grandaw), Engine 8 (Gavin)
