The Canton Fire Department laid to rest its most senior member, Emerson Forbes. An active member until his death, Past Chief Forbes had given over 70 years of service to the Canton community and St. Lawrence County. Forbes was given a funeral with full firefighter honors. The department processed on foot from the Lawrence Funeral Home to the Presbyterian Church underneath a ladder arch and American Flag hoisted by aerials from Potsdam Fire and Gouverneur Fire. Following the funeral, a procession of fire apparatus accompanied Past Chief Forbes on his final run. Firefighters from numerous departments attended both the calling hours and the funeral to honor all that Emerson had given to the fire service in Canton, St. Lawrence County, and New York State. Potsdam Fire, Potsdam Rescue, and Pierrepont Fire provided standby crews so that we could attend the services without interruption.
