At 2112 hours the tones activated for a possible camp fire on County Route 27 in the vicinity of LeBerge and Curtis. Assistant Chief Brian McCluskey went enroute immediately and requested a first alarm Tanker Task Force. The smoke column was visible from quite a distance away. Upon arrival it was found that the camp was over a quarter mile back in the woods along a rutted driveway and a tanker shuttle would not be possible back to the camp. Once Assistant Chief McCluskey and Chief Bob Crowe made their way back to the burning camp they encountered a fully involved building that was mostly on the ground immediately adjacent to the Grasse River. The decision was made to hold all mutual aid in quarters and have Engine 7 come in to the scene and draft from the river. Members extinguished the camp fire as well as several exposure fires in the surrounding wooded area. All units were back in service at 2330 hours. The fire is under investigation by members of the St. Lawrence County Fire Investigation team with assistance from the New York State Police.
