Canton Fire & Rescue Hosts Annual Banquet

Canton Fire & Rescue hosted it's Annual Banquet on Sat., September 24, 2011 at the Best Western. The dinner was well attended by present and former members and invited guests from other departments. As is tradition, awards were presented after dinner. Receiving their 5 year pins were, Jess Thompson, Marlise Leggett, Adam Leggett, and Tyler Clark. Chief Michael Dalton and 1st Assistant Chief Robert Crowe received plaques for completing 20 years of service. Although she was not in attendance, Joanne Scott was recognized for 35 years of service.
Dale Gardner was chosen as the Herb Haven Community Spirit Award recipient this year. Dale was recognized for his service outside the Canton Fire Department, particularly spearheading the funding drive for the new Training Facilty in West Potsdam.
Wayne Stripp was selected as this year's Fireman of the Year. Wayne's dedication to the department in spite of serious personal challenges serve as an inspiration to us all.
Don Thompson was selected as EMS provider of the year for his continued dedication. Don can always be counted on to answer any call, from the most serious to the most routine.

Following the awards, the Six Foot Midgets performed to everyone's delight well into the evening.
We don't often get a chance to socialize amongst ourselves, and thanks to Potsdam Fire providing Fire & EMS coverage, we were able to enjoy ourselves without having to worry about answering calls.
