Sunday Night truck checks were quickly interrupted by the tones for Canton Fire Department to respond to the DePue Rd off SH 68 for a reported Chimney Fire. Canton Engine 6 was quickly en route and initial reports from dispatch reported a well involved chimney with extension to the roof and attic space of the structure. Canton 2nd Assistant Chief Matt McGregor (4-3) immediately upgraded with a 2nd alarm. Following behind Engine 6, Canton's Engine 8, Rescue 1, Tanker 20 and Ambulance 131 were also en route to the scene. Upon arrival of Canton Fire units, a one story structure was found with working fire showing from the chimney with smoke showing from the adjoining roof. One 1-3/4" hose line was stretched from Engine 6 to extinguish the fire at the top of the Chimney.
All Hands were utilized to overhaul the entire chimney, check for extension on the interior of the structure making use of the Thermal Imaging Camera. Upon investigation and overhaul by Canton Firefighters, the fire had burned through the exterior wall and extended into the attic space which was quickly extinguished.
Another quick stop by CFD. One minor firefighter injury was reported, no civilian injuries were reported however. All units were back in service by 22:37 hours.
