2nd Due Tower/Ladder Company To Gouverneur House Fire
By Firefighter/AEMT-CC Eric Walraven
August 24, 2010
At 10:51 Canton Fire Department was dispatched to respond to Rock Island Road in Gouverneur with the Tower and airpack personnel for a working structure fire mutual aid to Gouverneur Fire. Canton Fire Engine 8, Tower 1, and Chief 4-1, arrived to find Gouverneur Fire and several mutual aid departments fighting fire in a large 2 story multi-occupancy dwelling. The main body of fire had been knocked down and our members were assigned to assist in opening up walls and ceilings inside of the structure to find any hidden hot spots. This task was made especially difficult by the multiple apartment additions onto the home. A great job was done by GFD and Mutual Aid companies of quickly knocking down the main seat of the fire. Once the overhaul was completed, Canton units were released to return to quarters. All Canton equipment was back in service by 13:29 hours with no civilian or firefighter injuries reported.
