At appoximately 19:28 hours St Lawrence County Central Dispatch dropped the tones for Canton Fire Department to respond Mutual Aid to Pyrites Fire Department for a House Explosion with Fire still working at the Cousintown Road in Pyrites. Both Assistant Chief McGregor and McCluskey were immediately en route with Engine 6, Rescue 1, and Tanker 20 following shortly behind. Upon arrival of Canton Fire units, a heavy smoke condition revealed a working fire of a two story residential already on the ground with Pyrites units already at work fighting the remainder of the fire. Multiple secondary explosions were found as well. Canton and Pyrites Firefighters cautiously worked and overhauled the remants of the roof which consisted of mostly tin and shingling. Extensive work was made of the area and all other hazards were contained. No occupants were inside the home at the time and no Firefighter injuries were sustained even in the high environmental temperature of the day. All units returned to quarters and were back in service at 22:44 hours. A great job was done by both Canton and Pyrites Fire Departments and other mutual aid departments.
