Fire Safety activities continued this week as firefighters visited the Canton Day Care and the Canton Head Start. A book was read to the children about firefighters, how they can look and sound scary but are not, with fire safety and prevention. Fire Prevention Officer Aldous let the children see and feel the protective turn out gear that firefighters wear, then firefighter Mike Tracy donned his gear as the children watched. The children were able to see that firefighters can look and sound scary but are not, that they are there to help. Afterwards the children were able to go out to see a fire truck, many of the tools firefighters use, and ended with the children walking through the truck. Even though Fire Prevention Week has concluded, fire safety is important year round.
