At 1340 hours Canton Fire was dispatched to a reported garage and wildland fire at 152 Hayden Road in the town of Hermon, mutual aid to Richville Fire. They requested a tanker, manpower, and UTV-4. This was one of nearly a half-dozen wildland fires occurring simultaneously in the county. TA-20 responded at 1350, traveling the 20 miles to the scene and arriving at 1418 hours. Rescue 36 with UTV 4 arrived soon after and went to work alongside firefighters from Richville, DeKalb Junction, and Gouverneur Fire departments as well as members of the local Amish community to contain the fire and eventually extinguish it. Tankers were traveling as far as Gouverneur to find an adequate water supply given the ongoing drought in the area.
During the incident, DeKalb Junction Fire requested an engine to standby at their station at 1354 hours. Engine 8 responded, arriving at DeKalb station at 1418. Engine 8 was back in service at 1520 while the crew at the fire returned to service at 1541.
