| At 1645 hours, Canton Fire and Rescue was dispatched auto aid to Pyrites Fire for a hay bale on fire with fire spreading in the field. Canton Engine 7 was enroute at 1649. Chief Cary (4-2) and Chief Holcomb (4-4) arrived on scene moments later advising there was a round bale on fire which extended to the field and was spreading rapidly. Tanker 20 and Rescue 36 with UTV-4 checked enroute at 1653. Engine 7 arrived on scene at 1659. Engine 7’s crew pulled the 1 3/4” bumper line and an 1 3/4” cross lay and got a quick knock down on the fire. Tanker 20 and UTV-4 arrived on scene and a nurse line was stretched between Tanker 20 and Engine 7. Members from Canton and Pyrites Fire unrolled the hay bale to make sure it was completely extinguished and put out hot spots in the field. The cause of the fire was determined to be an overheated bearing on one of the rollers in the baler. Ten Canton Fire members responded and there were no firefighter or civilian injuries.
