The NYS DEC residential brush burning restrictions are slated to end on Saturday, May 14th at 11:59 PM. Residents of the Town of Canton are reminded that a burn permit is required for any open burning (aside from cooking and camp fires). There is no cost for the permit. Residents should contact the Town Clerk's office for more information and a list of Fire Wardens who issue the permits. Residents of the Village of Canton should be aware that open burning is never permitted within Village limits except as provided in the Village Code (link below). Any questions on open burning should be directed to the Code Enforcement Official for your jurisdiction.
