Canton Fire and Rescue were toned out at 1908 hours for an auto aid to Pyrites Fire for a reported structure fire at 333 Pink Schoolhouse Road. Second Assistant Chief Dan Aldous advised that he was enroute and there was a large header of smoke visible from the Village. He requested mutual aid from Russell Fire and Hermon Fire for tankers. Chief Aldous and Fire Chief Bob Crowe arrived on scene at 1914 to find one structure fully involved and partially collapsed with another barn and the house as exposures. Pyrites Fire arrived on scene moments later and laid LDH up the driveway. Chief Crowe established command and directed the Pyrites crew to protect the house as it was less than 6 feet to the burning structure and fire was beginning to develop on the back corner of the house. The decision was made to concentrate efforts on exposure control at the house and to write off the second barn, which had become involved. Canton units arrived on scene at 1922 and established water supply operations. Hermon Fire sent an engine to draft at the hydro dam in Pyrites for tanker filling operations. Additional tankers from DeKalb Fire and Morley Fire were requested to the scene. Captain Erik Johnson was assigned as Water Supply Officer and ensured the water supply was sufficient to sustain firefighting operations. Once the fire was knocked down, command was transferred to Pyrites Chief Matt Kielmeier. The St. Lawrence County Fire Investigation Team was requested to the scene to help determine the cause and origin of the fire. The fire remains under investigation.
