Canton Rescue was dispatched mutual aid to Hermon Fire and Rescue to a reported one car MVA with entrapment at 1046 hours. Rescue 1 was dispatched moments later with both units responding at 1050 hours. Canton personnel arrived on scene to find crews from DeKalb Fire and Richville Fire working to gain access to the single patient in a pickup truck that had collided with a tree. There was significant damage to the truck and serious entrapment. LifeNet was requested to respond as A-132 was enroute to the scene due to the entrapment. Crews worked together for over 2 hours to free the victim from the vehicle. At one point trauma surgeons from Canton Potsdam Hospital were brought to the scene for a possible field amputation. The patient was able to be disentangled and removed before that was necessary. Once removed, the patient was evaluated by the physicians, stabilized by Canton Rescue and LifeNet personnel and airlifted to Upstate Medical Center for further treatment. All Canton units were back in service at 1504 hours.
