Canton Fire and Rescue were dispatched at 1149 hrs to Church Street in the village for a report of a tractor trailer that had snagged a wire and broken a pole. Chief Bob Crowe was first to arrive at 1150 to find a tractor trailer entangled in utility wires, one broken pole, two poles that had been pulled out of vertical, and the driver still in the tractor. A portion of the village was reported to be out of power. Chief Crowe requested crews from National Grid, Verizon, Time Warner Cable, and SLIC to the scene to work with their respective cables. After a quick survey it was determined that there were no powerlines among those involved with the truck and it was safe for the driver to exit. Canton Fire and Rescue units, along with Canton PD, set up on either end of Church Street to close the street as well as direct traffic at the Main Street and Court Street intersection due to a traffic signal being without power. National Grid arrived on scene within 20 minutes and secured the power in the area so that the truck could safely be freed from its entanglement. The power was able to be quickly restored to the majority of the affected area. The cene was turned over to the utility companies to make their repairs and all units were back in service around 1310.
