The New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services (DHSES) continuously looks to improve and expand on recruitment and retention for volunteer firefighters. Through New York State’s Recruitment and Retention Grant Program, more than $650,000 has been awarded to volunteer firefighter organizations throughout the state. The most recent awards were given to twelve separate organizations across the state. Canton Fire Department was one of the twelve organizations chosen and received a $25,000 award. Canton Fire & Rescue looks to use this award to help expand recruitment and retention for the organization. Events and activities to entice individuals of the community to join the wonderful family of Canton Fire & Rescue are in the process of being arranged. The grant is one part of a renewed focus on recruitment and retention. Anyone interested in joining the Canton Fire & Rescue family is more than welcome to come and visit the firehouse to get a view of our lifestyle. Regardless of you interest(fire, rescue, ambulance driver, traffic control, etc), we have a spot for you. Applications are available at the station as well as on our website under the recruitment tab.
