Heavy downpours caused some localized flooding, resulting in the detouring of USH 11 for several hours. As the rains fell, Canton Fire was dispatched to the Best Western to assist with flooding conditions on the lower level. Storm drains had become overloaded with water causing excess runoff to enter a number of rooms on the lower level of the building. Tower 1 responded and deployed dewatering equipment to assist hotel staff in the effort to minimize damage. While on scene at the Best Western, Canton Fire was dispatched to the intersection of USH 11, SH 68 and SH 310 to detour traffic around the USH 11 underpass north of the Village. The drainage system in the underpass had been overwhelmed and several feet of water had accumulated in the underpass. A number of cars had attempted to go through the water and stalled at the deepest point. The occupants had been removed prior to the vehicles being inundated with water. Traffic was diverted for nearly two hours while the drains were given a chance to catch up and the water receded in the underpass. All Canton personnel were back in service by 1730 hours.
