Nice website. the Virgil, NY Fire Department is sponsoring relay race in September 25 & 26, 2010. It s a 100 mile relay, the teams must be made up of 60% of people in the public safety. If you don't want to run, you can walk or crawl.

It has been eight years since I left SUNY Canton and still have fond memories of the times I spent with your department as a mutal aid member while attending SUNY Canton. Just wanted to say thank you and keep up the good work and be safe!

I like the trucks that yall have inservice the department im with has 2 pumpers 1 brush 1 rescue/min pumper

I'm a FF here in Pittsburgh (actually Edgewood VFD, a few blocks away from the city border). Last week I had the honor of briefly visiting your excellent station while I was taking my niece to SLU.

Very nice facility -- sorry your ladder truck is being so flaky. Shame it wasn't used that much before you bought it.

You have a Bill Bennett -- that's my name, too. It was funny seeing black turnout gear that looked identical to mine, complete with Bennett on the bottom. Guess we get around!

Anyway, wish I could have met more of you (met Wayne, also Matt, and your full-time medic, and another guy... can't recall his name).

Would be fun to make some runs with ya next time I'm up to visit my niece.

First, I just want to say how much I've enjoyed looking around this website. It's very impressive.
I was trying to find out if the dept. still gave out the Herb Haven award, so thought I'd check the site out to see if it said anything. I was touched to see it was presented again in 2008. I'm his youngest daughter, grew up in Canton, and having the town remember my Dad for all he gave is heartfelt to me and my sister, Mel. My parents were very proud of the dept. and always talked highly of it.

I was trained at Canton in a 6th grade education program. It has served me over and over in a 15 year security career. In 1998 I started my own computer company and never forgot the teaching I received in this Class 1-A department. I was taught how to survive, how to properly knock down flames with each class of Fire Extinguisher and got to watch trucks depart on their prime directive of saving lives and putting out fires. If someone thinks they can't afford community education programs...have them call ME!
